Everyone is called to a Vocation. The Church distinguishes Vocations into 3 groupings. These Vocations are pertaining to our state of life. Everyone can also find a vocation in their daily living: as a teacher, doctor, or any job or even vounteer work. However, we must all carefully discern what direction God is calling us to in life. The links to the left will take you to pages with additional information.
Parish support for Vocations
We are a parish that prays for priests, deacons and religious, for those He is calling and for those discerning His call. The parish prayer for vocations may be found below. Each Lent, parishioners are encouraged to select the name of a seminarian from the "Vocations Tree" in the vestibule to pray for daily. Anyone interested in helping to promote and/or support those in our parish discerning God's call to the priesthood or religious life should contact ministry@ascensionbowie.org.
Mother Teresa Vocations Society
We also encourage membership in the
Mother Teresa Vocations Society (MTVS). There are no dues or commitments other than the promise to pray daily for priests, religious and those discerning. MTVS also sponsors mornings and evenings of recollection during the year free of charge to any who wish to attend.
Parish Prayer for Vocations
Loving God, You speak to us and nourish us through the life of our parish community at Ascension. In the name of Jesus, we ask You to send your spirit to us so that men and women among us, young and old, will respond to Your call to service and leadership in the Church. We pray especially in our day for those who hear Your call to serve as a priest, sister, brother or deacon. May those who are opening their hearts and minds to Your call be encouraged and strengthened by our prayers and support. Amen
