LECTORS (Teens or Adults)
Lectors are special liturgical ministers who serve the community by proclaiming the readings from Scripture during the Liturgy of the Mass other special occasions when readings from Scripture are included.
Duties: Proclaim the Scripture readings at Mass with reverence and understanding.
Time: As assigned by scheduler (arrive at least 15 minutes prior to Mass) Initial training by the Office of Worship, Archdiocese of Washington or by parish priest; and personal time spent in study and reflection on the Word. Lectors are expected to be familiar with the readings, including pronounciations, prior to the start of the Mass.
Special Skills: A love for God’s Word and desire to study it more deeply; a clear speaking voice; an ease speaking in front of people. Adult Lectors must have received all Sacraments of Initiation.
